Meet Noah

Noah is a domestic long haired tabby. He came all the way from Cape Breton, travelling for 6 hours to Halifax in a truck sleeping on a lap. At this point in time, he was approximately 5 months old. Thinking he was a girl at the time, he was originally named Noelle. He was found during the winter in early December 2012 and so his name was chosen from the French word for “Christmas”. Noah was unfortunately abandoned with his litter mates outside in the snow, however the rest were nowhere to be found. Sitting in the truck, waiting for her road trip back to Halifax, Kayla grabbed him out of the snow and decided she couldn’t leave this little kitten out in the cold without a chance.

When Kayla our technician first brought him home, she had been in contact with a rescue group who was willing to take him and adopt him out. She prepared her home for him to stay for a few nights. However after having him around, there was no way she could give up the little bean. He was so loving and so sweet and loved people. He loved to chat, however he had such a tiny voice that it either came out as a squeak or a whisper.

After deciding this new kitten would be family, and her very first pet out on her own, she of course took him to a vet to check his health status. This is when she found out Noelle would now be Noah. He was very healthy, aside from having ear mites. He was treated for those and he was tested negative for Feline Leukemia. A few weeks later he was neutered and all set to enjoy the good indoors life.

Over the years, he’s had an obsession with plants and of course food. You cannot leave anything on the stove or counter, he will find it. Whether it’s butter, bread or pasta sauce, he will certainly have a taste! And boy, if you are not up early enough to feed him breakfast, you can bet he’ll be sitting by your face staring at you until you get up. If you’re really late on getting up, he will start to crawl on you or knock items over on a dresser. He makes sure you do not forget to feed him, that’s for sure.

One thing he doesn’t like is water! Well that’s no surprise as he’s a cat and most of them hate water. If you want him to be loud, hop in the shower! His squeaky little voice will be the loudest, as he’s afraid that you’re going to hurt yourself in the water. He will even swat at you while having dilated pupils, letting you know how angry he is about the situation. But like always, he’ll be waiting on the toilet seat until you safely get out.

After years of getting into extra food and crumbs, Noah is now on a diet. He receives 4-5 small meals a day and is constantly watched to make sure he doesn’t try to steal any other food. Whether that be from his younger cat brother or human food that is left a little too long. He is being encouraged to exercise daily by chasing wands, laser pointers and toys, often before a feeding. He tends to be a bit lazy, so sometimes he needs to be motivated.

Now, Noah is almost 9 years old and is still as loving as always. He will answer you when he’s spoken to as well as kneed his paws and loves a good afternoon cuddle. Soon enough this 14lb cat will be back down to a solid 10lb and his owner will be so pleased!
